I’ve lived in Japan for 20 years, and I’ve spent years travelling the world with a glass in hand. I’ve had drinks in over 100 countries and visited production facilities on six continents (although I’ve been explored all seven!). I’m a Certified Sake Professional (CSP) and hold a Distinction in the WSET Level 3 Sake qualification.
I also run Maction Planet, a bespoke Japan tour company with over 340 5.0★ reviews and a Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award 2025. I launched the Kanpai Planet YouTube channel in February 2021, which now features over 85 long-form videos and has over 9000 subscribers, 500000 views and 40000 watch hours.
My mission is simple: to demystify, democratise, and help you discover the world of Japan’s drinks. Whisky. Sake. Shochu. Gin. Soft drinks and much more. If it’s liquid refreshment and it’s from or of Japan, we’ll cover it.
Kanpai Planet is a response. A response to the misinformation. A response to lazy, generic content about Japan’s drinks culture. A response to the idea that you need to be an expert, an insider, or already in Japan to be part of this world. You don’t. You just need to be curious.
We are here to bridge the gap between enthusiast and expert, between traveller and resident, between you and the next great drink you haven’t tried yet.
